Frequently asked questions
What is the MPU and why do I need it?
The MPU (medizinisch-psychologische Untersuchung) is a medical-psychological assessment. The driving licence authority orders it when it doubts your fitness to drive, for example after alcohol or drugs at the wheel, too many points or a traffic offence. Only with a positive report will the authority issue your licence again.
Can I take the MPU in English?
The interview with the psychologist is usually held in German. Many assessment centres accept a sworn interpreter, sometimes they arrange one themselves. Please ask the centre before you book. We prepare you for both situations.
Do I have to come to Düsseldorf?
No. All sessions take place online by video, wherever you live in Germany. You only need a smartphone or laptop and a quiet room. Evening and Saturday appointments are possible.
What does the preparation cost?
The complete preparation costs a fixed price of €1,650, and you can pay in instalments. The fee of the assessment centre comes on top, for alcohol or drugs usually from about €600. The first consultation is free.
How long does the preparation take?
That depends on your case and on what the authority asks for. In the free first consultation we look at your situation and give you an honest plan, including a realistic time frame.
